Deep Dive // Undergraduate Research
Research at CRC
In the Spring of my Sophomore year, I participated in undergraduate research at the Center for Research Computing at Notre Dame. There, I worked in a team of team of five fellow students researching how AI could integrate into CAD software.
Focusing on SolidWorks, we discovered a few different AI models on the market that worked well. The most successful model was MecAgent, which we used to take all the busy work out of engineering drawings. This saved 80% of the time taken making engineering drawings, whilst maintaining industry-grade quality.
Though working on research during the semester was a challenge, I learnt to manage my time and work effectively in a professional team environment. I look forward to seeing how AI will shape the future of mechanical design.
